Teacher I've Never Forgotten |

Mr. Hawkinson was my Speech teacher at Peoria Central HS (class of '72). I learned only in the past couple of days of his unfortunate passing from a group of former Central classmates on Facebook. I had great difficulty speaking in front of even small groups (like those in my Speech class). Mr. Hawkinson helped me tremendously in getting through my required Speech class. Even after all these years, I have never forgotten his support & encouragement, his kindness & very sweet smile.

Jeff & I became acquainted through our Salvation Army involvement. A real class guy---someone who was always dependable in doing a 1st class job. He did much for the Army, and now he has received his "Promotion to Glory".
Sorry I will not be with you this afternoon as I will not be returning to Peoria until next week.

Cathi, if you only knew how many people you and Jeff have inspired with your love and commitment to each during the good times and challenges. Jeff had incredible insight and intuition and a depth of compassion that is truly rare and often at its best behind-the-scenes. He exhibited incredible strength in the face of this horrible disease and together, you kept battling it and all the obstacles along the way with unimaginable energy and dignity. Know that I'm sending love and hugs to you. Thank you for giving Jeff a well-deserved "happy hour" and sharing him with all of us.

My heartfelt prayers are with you and your family! You and Jeff have lived such a difficult life the past 10 years -- and you two did so with grace, humor and love. Jeff was such a gentle-man. Such an articulate, loving individual who gave so much to others. I'm honored to have known him and worked with him. I will never forget him. May his memory be for a blessing -- and may you be comforted by the many happy memories you have of your years together.

I was a charter member of TV-10 and in several of Hawk's classes at ISU. He was not only a great teacher and a great leader; he was also a great friend. After graduation, I worked for a competing TV station in Peoria and we talked "on the street" many times.
The number of TV-10ers who found success--and continue to do so--in the broadcast industry is a testament to Hawk.
My heart goes out to Cathi and their children. Hawk's untimely passing was a blow to all who knew him. May God comfort you during this time.
